PDF to Excel

Turn tables in a PDF into an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file in your browser. Tables are found from where the words sit. Free, no uploads.

Your files stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Honest limit: tables are detected from the position of the words, so merged cells, tables without gaps and scanned pages are not handled. Formatting is not kept.

Shortcuts: Ctrl+Enter run · Ctrl+Shift+C copy result · / search (use ⌘ on Mac)

Free Online PDF to Excel

Pull tables out of a PDF and open them in Excel. Each table lands on its own sheet, and numbers are saved as numbers. Your PDF never leaves your device. Find the tables in a PDF and save them in an Excel file or as CSV. It works best on PDFs made on a computer, with real text and clear columns.

How to turn a PDF table into Excel

Drop your PDF, choose the pages if you like, pick Excel or CSV, and press Find tables. Download the file and open it in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice.

Check the result

The tool guesses where the columns are from the gaps between words. Tables with merged cells or no gaps may need a quick fix in Excel.

Common mistakes

  • Using a scanned PDF: there is no text to read, so run it through Image to Text (OCR) first.
  • Expecting the colours, borders and fonts of the PDF table: only the words and numbers are saved.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The tables are found and the spreadsheet is written inside your browser.
How does it find tables?
It looks for lines where words sit in columns with wide gaps between them, and groups neighbouring lines into a table. Each table goes to its own sheet in the Excel file.
Why was no table found?
The PDF may be a scan (only pictures), or its tables may have no gaps between columns. Try PDF to Text to get the words instead. For scans use Image to Text (OCR) first.
Will the numbers work in Excel?
Cells that are clearly numbers, such as 1,250.50, are saved as numbers so you can add them up. Everything else stays as text. Check the result: a table found in a PDF is always a best guess.
Why did it find no tables in my scanned PDF?
A scan is only a picture, so there is no text to read into cells. Use Image to Text (OCR) first, or start from the original file.
