Compare PDF

Compare two PDF files for text differences and visual page changes in your browser. Spot revisions in contracts and reports with zero server uploads.

Your files stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

The text comparison ignores extra spaces. The picture comparison needs your browser to draw the pages, so long PDFs take a moment.

Add two PDF files and see what changed: lines that were added or removed, and the differences painted red on the pages. Your files never leave your device. Open an old and a new PDF and see which lines were added or removed, with the changes painted in red on the page pictures.

How to compare two PDF files

Add the original first and the changed file second. Press Compare. The text differences are listed with the changed words marked, and each page that looks different is shown with the changes in red.

Reading the result

Green lines were added in the second file and red lines were removed from the first. Small differences in how the pages are drawn can show as tiny red marks in the picture comparison.

Common mistakes

  • Adding the files in the wrong order: the first file is the original, so added and removed will be swapped.
  • Comparing scanned PDFs by text: they have no words. Use the page pictures instead.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded?
No. Both files are read and compared inside your browser.
Which file is the original?
The first one you add. Lines that are only in the second file are shown as added (green), lines that are only in the first as removed (red).
What does the picture comparison show?
Each page of both files is drawn and compared pixel by pixel. The second page is shown faded with every difference in red. It finds changes in pictures, colours and layout that a text comparison cannot see.
Why does it say a file has no text?
A scanned PDF is only pictures, so there are no words to compare. The picture comparison still works.
Can it compare two scanned PDFs?
Yes, by the page pictures: the differences are painted in red. Text comparison needs PDFs that contain real text.
