How to black out text in a PDF
Drop your PDF in the box. Drag on the page to draw boxes over what must disappear, or type words (one per line) and press Find these words to see where they are. Press Redact PDF and save the new file.
Honest limits: redacted pages become pictures, so their text can no longer be selected. Words that are only inside a picture (a scan) are found by drawing a box, not by search. Look at the result before you share it.
Common mistakes
- Using white-out or a coloured box in another tool: the words stay in the file under it.
- Searching for a name written two ways: add each spelling on its own line.
- Forgetting to look at the saved file: always check that the right areas are black.
