How to make a PDF from text

Paste or type your text, or open a .txt or .md file. Choose Plain text or Markdown, set the page and font, and press Create PDF.

Plain text or Markdown

Plain text keeps your line breaks and starts a new paragraph at each blank line. Markdown turns # Heading, - list, **bold**, code blocks and tables into formatted PDF.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting text in Hindi, Chinese or Arabic: the standard PDF fonts cannot draw it and it shows as "?".
  • Choosing Markdown for ordinary text with * or # characters: they may be turned into formatting. Use Plain text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded?
No. The PDF is made inside your browser and saved to your device.
What is Markdown?
A simple way to write headings, lists, bold and tables with plain characters, for example # Title, - item, **bold**. Choose Markdown if your text uses them; choose Plain text otherwise.
Why do some letters show as "?"
The PDF uses the standard fonts that every PDF reader has. They cover English and most European languages. Other scripts, such as Hindi, Chinese, Arabic or emoji, cannot be drawn and are replaced with a question mark. The tool tells you how many were replaced.
Can I open a text file?
Yes. Use the upload button above the text box, or drop a .txt or .md file on it.
Can I use letters from other languages?
Plain letters, numbers and common symbols of Western languages work. Scripts such as Hindi or Chinese are not supported in this tool yet and are shown as a message instead of wrong boxes.
