Free Online SSH Key Generator (Ed25519 and RSA)
Make an SSH key pair without installing anything. You get the public key line for servers and GitHub, the private key file, and the fingerprint to check them by. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused ssh key generator task before moving the result into a project.
How to make a key
Choose the key type, add a comment such as your email, and press Generate key. Download or copy both parts.
What to do with it
Save the private key as ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 and run chmod 600 ~/.ssh/id_ed25519. Add the public key to your server or Git host.
Common mistakes
Sharing the private key: only the public key line is meant to be shared.
Forgetting chmod 600: SSH refuses a private key that other users can read.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to make a key in a browser?
The key is made with your browser's secure random generator and is never sent anywhere. Even so, for keys that guard important servers, many people prefer to generate them with ssh-keygen on their own machine. Use a key made here for learning, testing and personal projects.
Ed25519 or RSA?
Ed25519: short, fast and secure, supported by all current servers and by GitHub, GitLab and cloud providers. Use RSA (3072 or 4096 bits) only when an old system does not accept Ed25519.
Where do the two files go?
Save the private key as ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 and run chmod 600 on it. Put the public key line in the server's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys or paste it into GitHub's SSH keys page.
Can I add a passphrase?
Not on this page. Add one to the saved file with: ssh-keygen -p -f ~/.ssh/id_ed25519. A passphrase protects the key if the file is copied.
How do I use this ssh key generator tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
