Free Online Random String Generator

Make random strings for test data, tokens, IDs and API keys. Choose the length and the characters, make one or a thousand, and copy or download the list. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused random string generator task before moving the result into a project.

How to generate random strings

Choose a length, how many strings you want and which characters to use, then press Generate. Press it again for a new set.

Custom characters

Choose "My own characters" and type the characters to draw from. Repeated characters are counted once.

Common mistakes

  • Do not use a short numeric string as a secret: 6 digits are only 20 bits and can be guessed quickly.
  • Tick "Avoid look-alikes" when people have to read the string aloud or type it by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Are these strings really random?
Yes. They come from your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used for encryption keys. Every character of the set is equally likely.
How long should a token be?
For an API key or session token, aim for at least 128 bits. The page shows the strength in bits: 22 letters and digits give about 130 bits.
Can I use these as passwords?
Yes, a long random string makes a strong password. For passwords you need to remember, use the Password Generator, which can make word-based passphrases.
Is anything stored or uploaded?
No. The strings are made on your device and disappear when you close the page.
How do I use this random string generator tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
