Free Online Unicode Character Inspector

Paste any text and see each character on its own row, with its code, name, bytes and script. Invisible characters and look-alike letters are marked so you can find what is hiding in your text. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused unicode character inspector task before moving the result into a project.

How to inspect your text

Paste or type text on the left. The table lists every character. Rows with a warning are highlighted and explained. Press Remove hidden characters to get a clean copy of your text.

What the columns mean

Code is the Unicode number (U+0041 is the letter A). UTF-8 is how the character is stored in a file or sent over the web. HTML is the entity you can write in a web page.

Common mistakes

  • A normal-looking password or name can contain a zero-width space; compare it here when a login or search fails for no visible reason.
  • A no-break space looks like a space but is a different character, so a search for a normal space will not find it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hidden character?
A character that takes no visible space, such as a zero-width space, a soft hyphen or a byte-order mark. They sneak in when text is copied from web pages or chat apps and can break code, passwords and comparisons.
What is a look-alike letter?
Some letters from Cyrillic or Greek look the same as Latin letters, for example the Cyrillic "а" and the Latin "a". Scammers use them to imitate real names and website addresses. The page flags such letters when they are mixed with Latin letters in one word.
Why does one emoji show several code points?
An emoji such as a thumbs up with a skin tone is a base character plus a modifier. The page groups them as one character you see, and lists every code point inside.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The inspection runs in your browser. Very long text is limited to 100 KB so the page stays quick.
How do I use this unicode character inspector tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
