Free Online Properties to YAML

Turn a Java or Spring Boot .properties file into YAML. Dotted keys are nested, list keys such as items[0] become lists, and #--- sections are written as separate YAML documents. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused properties to yaml task before moving the result into a project.

How to use Properties to YAML

Paste your data into the box on the left, or open a file, then press Convert. Paste the file. Comments are dropped, \uXXXX escapes are decoded, and values such as 8080 and true are written as numbers and booleans.

Common mistakes

  • Values that look like numbers but are codes, such as 007: they stay text; others are converted when detection is on.
  • Keys that differ only by case: they stay separate in YAML.

Frequently asked questions

How are Spring profiles handled?
Spring Boot allows several documents in one properties file separated by #---. Each becomes a YAML document separated by ---.
What if a key is both a value and a parent?
For example a=1 and a.b=2. The tool keeps the value under "_value" and warns, because YAML cannot hold both.
Are comments kept?
No. Comments are not part of the data and are dropped.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you paste or open is sent to a server.
How do I use this properties to yaml tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
