Free Online PGP Key Generator

Make a PGP key pair without installing anything, then encrypt, decrypt, sign and verify messages. Everything happens in your browser. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused pgp key generator task before moving the result into a project.

How to make a PGP key

Choose "Make a key pair", enter a name and email, pick a key type and a passphrase, and press the button. Copy or download the public key, the private key and the revocation certificate.

Using the key

To send a secret message, paste your friend's public key and choose Encrypt. To read a message sent to you, paste your private key and choose Decrypt.

Common mistakes

  • Sharing the private key: only the public key may be given to others.
  • Losing the passphrase: it cannot be recovered. Keep it in a password manager.
  • Not saving the revocation certificate: it is the only way to retire a key if the private key is lost or stolen.

Frequently asked questions

Are my keys sent anywhere?
No. The key is made in your browser with the OpenPGP.js library and the private key is shown only on this page. Close the page and it is gone, so save it first.
Which key type should I choose?
Curve25519 is modern, fast and small, and works with current GnuPG, Thunderbird and Proton. Choose RSA 4096 only when you must work with very old software.
Do I need a passphrase?
It is strongly recommended. The passphrase locks the private key file, so a copied file is useless without it. If you forget it nobody can recover the key.
How do I use the key I made?
Share the public key freely. Keep the private key and the revocation certificate safe. Import them with gpg --import or into your mail program.
How do I use this pgp key generator tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
