Free Online HTML to Markdown

Paste web page code and get clean Markdown for a README, documentation or a notes app. Tables and code blocks keep their shape. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused html to markdown task before moving the result into a project.

How to use HTML to Markdown

Paste your code in the box on the left, or open a file, then press Convert. Scripts and styles are dropped. Elements Markdown cannot express, such as video or details, are kept as HTML and you are told.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting styles (colours, sizes) to survive: Markdown has no styling.
  • Pasting HTML that only holds divs: the text is kept but the layout is flattened.

Frequently asked questions

Are tables converted?
Yes, to GitHub-style pipe tables with the alignment kept. Merged cells (colspan, rowspan) cannot be written in Markdown, so each becomes one cell and you get a warning.
What about code blocks?
A <pre><code class="language-js"> becomes a fenced block with the language, and inline <code> becomes backticks.
Why are some tags left as HTML?
Markdown allows inline HTML, and tags such as , <kbd>, <details> and <iframe> have no Markdown form, so keeping them is better than losing them.
Is my code uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you paste is sent to a server.
How do I use this html to markdown tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
