Free Online Excel to JSON Converter

Turn an Excel sheet into JSON. Open an .xlsx file, choose the sheet and which row holds the column names, and copy or download the JSON. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused excel to json task before moving the result into a project.

How to convert Excel to JSON

Drop your .xlsx file below. The first sheet is converted at once; pick another sheet or change the header row in the options and the result updates.

Common mistakes

  • A title row above the table: set the header row to the row that has the column names.
  • Merged cells: only the top-left cell holds the value, so the others are empty.

Frequently asked questions

Which Excel files can I open?
Modern .xlsx workbooks. Old .xls files are not supported: open them in Excel and use Save As .xlsx first.
What happens to dates?
Excel stores dates as serial numbers (for example 45292 for 1 January 2024). They are shown as those numbers; format or convert them in your code if needed.
Can I convert every sheet?
Yes. Turn on "All sheets" and the result is an object with one list per sheet name.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The workbook is read by your browser and never sent anywhere.
How do I use this excel to json tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
