Free Online CSV to YAML
Turn spreadsheet rows into YAML, either as a list with one record per row or as a map keyed by a column you choose, such as an ID. It gives developers a quick browser-based way to solve a focused csv to yaml task before moving the result into a project.
How to use CSV to YAML
Paste your data into the box on the left, or open a file, then press Convert. The first row gives the key names. Choose "List" for one entry per row, or "Map" to use a column as the key of each entry.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a map with a key column that has repeated values: the tool stops and names the repeated key.
- Forgetting the key column name: the first column is used when it is empty.
Frequently asked questions
When should I use a map?
Use a map when each row has a unique ID and you want to look entries up by it. Every value in the key column must be different.
How are values typed?
With detection on, numbers and true/false are written without quotes. Text that looks like a number, such as an ID with leading zeros, stays quoted.
Can I get nested YAML?
Convert to JSON with nested headers first, then use the YAML ↔ JSON converter.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you paste or open is sent to a server.
How do I use this csv to yaml tool?
Use the interactive controls above; processing stays in your browser and the result is intended as a practical starting point for development work.
